The European Equestrian was established in Santa Monica, California in 1984 by two German riding enthusiasts who decided to bring the best European riding equipment to Southern California. They thought that offering the centuries old tradition of equestrian art would be appreciated by the local riding community. They moved the location twice as their business grew and settled in a building along the beach side of the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. In August 2009, the store re-located again a few miles up the coast so it could be closer to the barns and deeper in the heart of Malibu.

In 2006, Susan Kirchoff , a customer of the store and riding enthusiast, bought the store and had a vision. Why not push the store to not only have the best equipment she could find in Europe but the best equipment she could find domestically, as well. Her vision was to round up the riding community and offer them the best equipment and riding apparel she could find globally, as well as the best stable equipment and grooming supplies.

Susan does extensive research looking for the latest technology and innovations in the equestrian world. She is discerning when choosing the apparel as she knows her clientele has sophisticated tastes and appreciates quality. The sales staff is knowledgeable and friendly and have their own histories with riding and competing in the US and abroad.
